The plaintiff, Jerry Lane Sullivan, sues to recover damages allegedly sustained as a result of an assault and battery and false arrest by a deputy of the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Department. Among the defendants named are Sam James, the Sheriff of Natchitoches Parish, and the State of Louisiana.
