Appellant was arrested on October 6, 1976, and convicted, following a jury trial, on January 18, 1977, of simple assault. Post verdict motions were filed and denied. Appellant was thereafter sentenced on October 28, 1977 to a term of imprisonment for one to two years effective on that date.
