Two witnesses testified at trial, Raymond F. Blasky, then president of the union, and Wilson.

Blasky testified to the following facts. In 1971, Wilson was an employee of the American Can Co. and a member of the respondent union. On February 4th of that year at a general meeting of the union the membership voted, in anticipation of a strike, to assess a fine of $25 for each failure to perform picket duty.
