Petitioner, Israel E. Taylor, was accused of the shooting death of James Stone in New York City on November 15, 1973. He proceeded to trial before Justice Peter McQuillan, Justice of the Supreme Court, New York County, and a jury on February 5, 1976. At the trial, petitioner elected to testify in his own defense.
