A large explosion occurred at 2:47 a.m. on December 7, 1973, in the suburbs north of the city of Anchorage. The explosion originated at a storage magazine for explosives under lease from the federal government to petitioner E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, which was operated by petitioner Yukon Equipment, Inc.
