On Friday, December 10, 1971, the Ixtapa, a 52 ft., twin engine diesel, pleasure yacht left Marathon, in the Florida Keys bound for Cozumel, Mexico. Cozumel is an island off the coast of Yucatan, roughly 470 miles southwest of the tip of Florida. For a 31 year old vessel, Ixtapa was well founded.
