The defendant contends that the admission of the three photographs of the deceased's body to illustrate the testimony of S.B.I. Agent Marshall was error, not so much because they were gruesome, but because the number admitted was excessive. In State v. Mercer, 275 N.C. 108, 165 S.E.2d 328 (1969), four photographs were admitted depicting the dead body of the victim of an alleged murder...
