The Regional Rail Reorganization Act of 1973 (Pub.L.No.93-236) was enacted into law on January 2, 1974. In general terms, the purpose of this legislation is to provide a rail service system in the midwest and northeast regions of the United States which is adequate to meet the needs and service requirements of these regions and of the national rail transportation system.
