At the unlikely hour of 8 a.m. on January 2, 1971, Charles H. Cloud, Cleophus Bradford and John C. Pellum gathered at the home of Bradford to shoot dice and drink wine. After they had engaged in these activities for some time that morning, a disagreement led to a struggle concluded by the fatal shooting of Pellum.
