In the spring of 1967 the fancy of Crane Co. ("Crane") lit upon Westinghouse Air Brake Co. ("Air Brake") as an attractive take-over candidate. As is often the case in corporate, as in amatory, affairs, the pursued was unwilling. Air Brake rejected its suitor and turned elsewhere for marriage and protection. American Standard, Inc.
