On December 7, 1968, the S/S HELENA, owned by Sincere Navigation Corporation, and the United States Coast Guard Buoy Tender WHITE ALDER collided in the Mississippi River off Bayou Goula Towhead. The WHITE ALDER sank, and most of her crew were lost. The owner of the S/S HELENA filed a petition seeking exoneration from, or limitation of, liability. (Civil Action No. 68-2254).
