The appellant was convicted of a criminal charge of accessory after the fact of uttering a forged check. The formal charge was by affidavit which, omitting the formal parts thereof, is as follows:

"The undersigned affiant swears that on or about the 4th day of December, 1965, at the County of Elkhart and State of Indiana, one Peter Allen O'Connell did then and there unlawfully, feloniously, falsely and fraudulently utter and negotiate and endorse...
