Eddie Lee Hill, a longshoreman who stands 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighs 250 pounds, hurt his knee while descending a ladder through a hatch opening. There was nothing wrong with the ladder. The opening was larger than the standard size. Nonetheless, Hill says the vessel was unseaworthy, and his lawyer puts his case with commendable candor: The hatch itself was not too small.
