Petitioner Charles E. Louden, Jr., is now serving a life sentence as an habitual offender. This sentence was imposed in the Circuit Court of Berkeley County, West Virginia, on May 21, 1960, after Louden had entered a plea of guilty to the offense of unarmed robbery.
