On July 23, 1965 the F/V SNOOPY, while dragging for scallops off the coast of North Carolina, caught a torpedo in her port drag, exploded and sank. As a result of the explosion and sinking, eight members of her crew, including the captain, died, and the four surviving crew members sustained personal injuries.
