On June 8, 1961, Emil Wills was adjudicated a mentally ill person and committed to the care and custody of his wife, Helen Wills. He was hospitalized from time to time in Wesley Memorial Hospital. In early 1964 he left the hospital, and on July 20, 1964, he filed a petition for discharge from his custodian.
