This defendant has been indicted for the crime of perjury in the first degree. The indictment charges in substance that he gave false testimony of a material nature to a Grand Jury which was investigating whether there was a conspiracy to commit the crimes of bribery and taking unlawful fees in connection with matters pending before the New York State Liquor Authority.
