The plaintiff, Leland D. Phelps, owned a farm in Kent county, Michigan, consisting of 100 acres, 5 of which contained rich muck land suitable for growing yellow Globe onions. This soil had been previously analyzed by a muck specialist connected with Michigan State College who prescribed the type of fertilizer to be used in growing yellow Globe onions. In 1950, the plaintiff's yield of this type of onion was 600 bushels to the acre.
