Plaintiff Jewell Harris entered the employ of defendant Checker Cab Manufacturing Corporation at Kalamazoo in 1945. She was laid off in May of that year and did not return to work until July of 1948. She described her duties as "assembling work." This consists of putting upholstery on the panels inside the cabs and wood crash pads in the bottom of the cab bodies.
