The libel was filed November 25, 1927, and on October 17, 1928, an amended libel was filed, but the case was not brought on for trial until December 20, 1935. It is alleged that on or about May 5, 1927, the Hamburg American Line issued and delivered to Melchers & Co., at Hankow, China, a bill of lading which recited that 87 bales of hides had been shipped by Melchers & Co. on board the steamship Idarwald in apparent good order and...
