The underlying import of our decision today is to determine whether working people with few assets are to have access to the appellate process, or are to be precluded from appeal by requiring excessive appeal bonds. These cases, consolidated on appeal from the Landlord-Tenant Division of the Common Pleas Court of Detroit (hereinafter Landlord-Tenant Court), involve the attempts of two working mothers to remain in homes they were purchasing pending appeal...
